How sync works

clarife capture can sync your screenshots to your clarife web account automatically. Once synced, screenshots appear in the web editor ready to be inserted into documents. Sync uses bearer token authentication — the companion app authenticates with your clarife account securely.

Setting up sync

1

Sign in to the companion app

Open clarife capture settings and sign in with your clarife account credentials.
2

Enable auto-sync

Toggle Auto-sync on in the settings. New captures will upload automatically after each screenshot.
3

Verify connection

The tray icon shows a sync status indicator. A green dot means connected and syncing. A red dot means there is a connection issue.

Auto-sync is available on all plans. Both Free and paid plan users can sync screenshots from the companion app to the web editor.

The tray icon indicates current sync status:

Handling sync issues

If sync stops working:
  1. Check internet connection — sync requires an active connection
  2. Re-authenticate — if you see a red dot, your auth token may have expired. Sign out and sign back in
  3. Check storage — if your clarife storage is full, uploads will fail. Free up space or upgrade your plan
  4. Retry — the companion app automatically retries failed uploads with exponential backoff
If your authentication session expires (401 error), the companion app will attempt to refresh the token automatically. If it fails, you will need to sign in again from the settings.

Deleting synced captures

When you discard a capture in the companion app, it sends a DELETE request to remove the screenshot from your clarife cloud storage as well. This keeps local and remote in sync.
